Paul Arnold, a local Bleadon resident who stood for parliament in the 2005 UK General Election is Chairman of the 'Village School for a Village Child' Bleadon Action Group. This group is dedicated to helping all families in Bleadon to ensure that their children continue to have the the right to send their children to a village school.
It is important to have a village school for a village child because if you live in a village then
you would want your child educated in a village school. The fundamental
point is that the children need to go to school together so that they know
each other. It is central to community spirit and the children that they
grow up with children from their own enviroment. It is also essential for
newcomers to the village for whom schools allocations is an issue. Why would
anyone want to live in Bleadon where schools allocation could be a lottery
when they could move to Hutton or Uphill and be assured of a place. Also
property prices have a 13% premium if there is a good primary school
available.
When Bleadon Primary school closed in 1964 there was a huge outcry from residents in Bleadon. They were appeased by an agreement with Somerset Council who gave Bleadon children priority to get in to Uphill primary school. This agreement has now been broken, read more about it here, without any consultation of Bleadon residents.
If this situation bothers you then please join us and help put pressure on North Somerset Council along with Bleadon Parish Council.
You can make a difference for your child. Help us get the best for Bleadon children, they are our future and they are worth it.
