December 2004 was a special day for 20 women who graduated from the first ever Certificate in Actionwork to be run in Japan
To run this Course, Actionwork formed a partnership with Empowerment Kansai. Empowerment Kansai Director Tokiko Tagami saw the potencial in Actionwork to help develop peoples lives and asked Andy Hickson to design a Course that would engage peoples lives.
This innovative Course was exciting, vibrant, energised, thought provoking, scary and great fun. What scared the participants the most was the thought of doing a work placement. They had to organise, design, run and evaluate a programme using creative action methods with a group over a period of time. Most said thay could not do it and most were able to do it and do it really well.
We have made future Courses even better by redesiging it to be more flexible so that people can take longer to complete it if they want, but they can also still complete in one year if they wish
