Theatre of the Oppressed workshops

NEWSFLASH: Theatre of the Oppressed training programme in the Malaysian Jungle.

Theatre of the Oppressed are a series of techniques that come under the banner of 'social theatre'.

Actionwork® are specialists in using Social Theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed techniques. Two of our most popular workshops for adults and older children are our Forum Theatre and Invisible Theatre workshops.

Forum Theatre workshops are used to explore issues, build skills and challenge oppression in a variety of forms. These workshops are great fun, energised and can be run with any age group. Actionwork® staff have experience of working with Augusto Boal and other forum theatre specialists and have run forum theatre workshops all over the world. If you have a problem and want to find a solution, Forum Theatre is an excellent medium to use.

Invisible Theatre workshops are used to challenge perceptions and raise awareness of a whole range of issues. Invisible theatre workshops are invigorating, sometimes scary, enlightening, energised and great fun. Actionwork® staff have experience of working with Augusto Boal and other invisible theatre specialists and have run invisble theatre workshops all over the world. If you have an issue you want highlighted, Invisible Theatre is an excellent medium to use.

Other Theatre of the Oppressed workshops we deliver include 'Rainbow of Desires', 'Image Theatre' and the 'Great Game of Power'.

In addition to working with Augusto Boal our staff have run Invisible and Forum theatre training sessions for the DFE/DCSF (Formally DFES), British Council, Institute of Dramatherapy, Dawn Centre for Women, Empowerment Kansai, University of London and with individual groups up and down the country and abroad.

Social Theatre training sessions normally last for two-days minimum.

We also run a variety of creative human rights workshops.
